The fall semester at Nebraska Wesleyan University officially began Monday, August 26. But first year students in Karla Jensen’s liberal arts seminar, “The Liberal Arts of Yoga,” started their academic year early learning the historical, psychological, economical, and political aspects of yoga.
They started on Sunday, August 18 with a class on basic breathing techniques.
Nebraska Wesleyan University is responding by launching a new Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice degree. The degree will be offered through the university’s Wesleyan Advantage Program, which is geared for working adults.
In August recent Nebraska Wesleyan University graduate Jordan Klimek will move from Burwell, Neb., to Cambridge, Mass. where he will attend Harvard Law School.
When Nebraska Wesleyan University junior Ross Mumford agreed to be a student co-instructor in Sheryl Rinkol’s Liberal Arts Seminar, he had a lot of enthusiasm for teaching, but only average knowledge of the course matter: Boarding the Ship of Dreams: Sailing Across 100 Years of Titanic.
This summer, nine students and two faculty headed back to San Miguel Milpas Altas, Guatemala, where they joined the organization Constru Casa in constructing two houses for local families.
A fourth Nebraska Wesleyan University student has won a Fulbright Scholarship. Megan Meyerson of Lincoln will spend the next year in Brazil where she will teach English.
James Shea, assistant professor of English, will spend the 2013-2014 academic year teaching at Hong Kong Baptist University as a Visiting Fulbright Scholar.
