NWU Community Exceeds Service Challenge Goal With Over 17,000 Hours

The service challenge results were revealed at the homecoming football game on Sept. 22.

One year ago Nebraska Wesleyan University students, faculty, staff, alumni and friends of the university committed to serve 12,500 volunteer hours.

The 12,500 Hour Service Challenge was launched last August in honor of the university's 125th anniversary. The goal was to serve those hours by the conclusion of the anniversary celebration, September 2013.

Turns out an entire year wasn't needed. By April 2013, the goal was met but the service didn't end. In total, the Nebraska Wesleyan University community served 17,722 hours in one year.

Hundreds of community service projects were logged from Lincoln, Neb. to Chicago, Ill., to Tampa, Fla., to New York City, N.Y., to Nicaragua, Honduras, and Figi.

The grand total was announced at halftime of the homecoming football game on September 21.

To all who participated, thank you for your commitment to serving Nebraska Wesleyan University and your communities.
