This year the Howard Hughes Medical Institute Science Education Alliance selected NWU to be an associate member and participant in a national bacteriophages experiment. NWU faculty received special training last summer and implemented the experiment into their introductory biology classes.

Two years ago Lindsey Jones received a prestigious Goldwater Scholarship to help enhance her knowledge and experience in science.

Jones was only a sophomore at the time and was one of just 275 students in the country to win the scholarship that honors top science and math undergraduates.

Nebraska Wesleyan University junior Laura Blasnitz is pretty sure she won’t cure cancer. But she’s hoping her summer research experience will eventually lead to a career where her contributions are important.

“I don’t expect to cure anything in my lifetime,” said Blasnitz. “I only hope to make some kind of substantial contribution to humanity.”
