Status

Nebraska Wesleyan University seeks applications for an IT Campus Network Administrator. The position is responsible for the planning, implementing, managing, and supporting the campus network needs of the university as directed by the Director of IT Infrastructure. Various areas of responsibility will include overseeing the university's network infrastructure, troubleshooting network-related issues, documenting network infrastructure changes and upkeep, as well as supporting the university's telecommunications and fax infrastructure.

Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with IT leadership to ensure all network planning and operations support the university's broader technology goals and strategic priorities.
  • Configure network devices and ensure reliable connectivity, optimal performance, and robust security across campus. 
  • Collaborate with IT security partners and facilities teams to maintain a secure, well-documented, and resilient network environment.
  • Recommends purchase orders and expenditures for necessary network security needs.
  • Perform routine maintenance including firmware updates, configuration backups, and hardware lifecycle management. 
  • Implement and enforce network security measures such as firewall management, intrusion detection, access controls, and traffic monitoring to protect university data and systems.
  • Provide physical assistance with cabling, wiring closet organization, and infrastructure installations as needed. 
  • Act as the escalation point for network-related issues that require advanced troubleshooting.
  • Communicate network status, outages, and technical recommendations to faculty, staff, and administrators in accessible, non-technical language. 
  • Ensure reliable voice and unified communications services across campus. 
  • Administer VoIP systems, SIP trunks, and voicemail platforms.
  • Maintain documentation of telecom configurations, phone inventories, and billing accounts. 
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, network engineering, telecommunications, or a related field; related work experience may be substituted for a degree
  • 3 years of progressive experience in network administration, engineering, or infrastructure management.
  • Proficiency in network related technologies and protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, subnetting, BGP, OSPF, SD-WANs, and spanning tree protocols).
  • Hands-on experience configuring and managing routers, switches, firewalls, and wireless access points.
  • Knowledge of network monitoring tools (SolarWinds, Nagios, PRTG, Wireshark, or similar).
  • Ability to read and create network diagrams and documentation.
  • Proficiency with Linux/Unix systems and Windows Server environments, including Active Directory, Group Policy, and DNS/DHCP services.
  • Understanding of security best practices and compliance frameworks (FERPA, PCI-DSS, Zero-Trust).
  • Experience with vulnerability assessments and incident response.
  • Experience managing VoIP, SIP trunks, and unified communications systems.
  • Must have strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Must have ability to work independently.
  • Must have strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
