NWU Career Closet

The Nebraska Wesleyan University Career Closet equips students with professional attire to help them shine in their first big interviews, first days on the job, and beyond. This resource provides free access to clean, gently used professional clothing, empowering students to confidently step into the professional world.

Open to all NWU students, the Career Closet is made possible through the generosity of our donors and sponsors, ensuring that no student feels unprepared for their next chapter. We also strive to reduce waste and embrace more eco-friendly, sustainable practices.

For Students

Between May 1 and August 24, please contact the Career Center directly to reserve a time in the Career Closet rather than clicking the "schedule a visit" button below.

Schedule a visit

• Appointments are available Monday through Friday, 9 a.m.-4 p.m.
• Each appointment is scheduled for 45 minutes, with 15 minutes between appointments.
• You are welcome to bring a companion to your appointment; however, we will only schedule one student per hour to ensure student privacy.
• At your scheduled time, head to the Career Center in the lower level of the Story Student Center.
  • Please bring a backpack or reusable bag with you to transport your items.
• If the space is available, you can also visit the Career Closet without an appointment.

What You'll Find

Gently used professional clothing items, including:

• Blazers, suits, dress shirts, slacks, skirts, blouses, dresses
• Ties, shoes, belts, scarves, and handbags

What to Expect

• Schedule your visit
• Browse and try on items
• Select up to ten items per semester
• Complete a brief inventory form
• Take your items home - they are yours to keep!

The Career Closet exists because of generous donors who help ensure every NWU student has access to professional attire regardless of financial circumstances. 

Donate Clothing

We welcome:

• Clean, gently used professional attire, including suits, blazers, dress shirts, skirts, dresses, ties, and other business professional or business casual clothing
• Accessories such as belts, scarves, jewelry, and handbags
• Professional shoes in good condition

All donated items should be free of stains, holes, and excessive wear, and suitable for interviews or workplace settings.

Please bring your donation items to the Career Center or email career [at] nebrwesleyan.edu (career[at]nebrwesleyan[dot]edu) to make arrangements for local pick-up. Feel free to download a receipt form.

Purchase Needed Items

We maintain an Amazon Wish List featuring some of our most-needed items. However, donations do not need to be purchased through Amazon. We gladly accept comparable items purchased from local retailers, thrift stores, consignment shops, and garage sales.

Make a Financial Gift

Monetary donations help us purchase high demand sizes and classic pieces that students need most.

• Cash or check – Checks (made out to NWU) and cash may be delivered or mailed to NWU Advancement, 5000 Saint Paul Ave, Lincoln NE 68504. Please include your name and note “NWU Career Closet” so you can receive a charitable receipt.
• Online donations – Debit and credit card gifts can be made online. When prompted to designate your gift, select “other” and enter “Career Closet.”

Sustainability Commitment

Any clothing that is not claimed within a designated timeframe will be donated to local nonprofit organizations. We strive to minimize waste and keep usable clothing out of landfills whenever possible.
