Gift of Grain Program

Now farmers can use their harvest to help keep good students right here in Nebraska. Donate a portion of your harvest through Nebraska Wesleyan’s Gift of Grain Program.

A stronger NWU gives young Nebraskans an excellent reason to stay in their home state: an outstanding, affordable education built for their success.

Participating co-ops

Nebraska Wesleyan University has accounts with 11 co-ops serving 184 Nebraska communities. And the list is growing. Virtually anywhere you farm, you can support NWU through the Gift of Grain Program.

  • Ag Valley
  • All Points Cooperative
  • Aurora Cooperative
  • Cargill
  • Farmers Cooperative
  • Farmers Cooperative Company
  • Farmers Union Co-op
  • Frenchman Valley Co-op
  • Midwest Farmers Co-op
  • Scoular
  • United Farmers Cooperative

Don’t see your co-op on our list? Call Susy Miller at 402.465.2188 and we’ll add it—even if you farm outside Nebraska.

How to give grain—and reap tax benefits

You can receive a substantial tax advantage by donating grain to Nebraska Wesleyan University since the donated grain never hits income or deductions on tax returns. This simple strategy requires two steps.

  1. You give the commodity to NWU (with evidence of transfer of title to the university).
  2. NWU promptly sells the commodity, never storing it. That means your gift of grain will have the most impact if you make it while markets are high.

NWU must receive the grain in its own account and sell it in order to preserve your tax benefits. If you sell the grain and transfer the proceeds, it is a taxable sale and a cash contribution to NWU.

Your elevator manager can help you transfer grain to Nebraska Wesleyan’s account. Or just contact us when you make your gift so it can be sold the same day. All you need to do is call or email Susy Miller.
