Panel Will Address Sports-Related Brain Injuries

Three experts on sports-related brain injuries will share the latest research as well as personal stories at an upcoming Nebraska Wesleyan University panel discussion.

The panel discussion will be held Thursday, February 24 at 1 p.m. in McDonald Theatre, 51st Street & Huntington Ave.

Panelists will include Dr. Ann McKee, assistant professor of neurology and pathology at Boston University School of Medicine. McKee’s current work centers on the long-term consequences of repetitive head injuries from contact sports. She was recently recognized by the American Association of Neuropathologists for her research on the topic.

Other panelists will include Dr. Dan Tomes, a local neurological and spinal surgeon, and Blake Lawrence, a former linebacker who ended his football career after two seasons with the Nebraska Cornhuskers having suffered four concussions in 18 months.

The panel discussion is free and open to the public.
