Cooper Foundation Center for Academic Resources

Providing assistance to all NWU students at every stage of their academic careers, including writing, speaking projects, and study skills.

The main Cooper Center, located in Cochrane-Woods Library, is staffed with two full-time employees with doctorates – Dr. Lisette Torres-Gerald and Dr. Melissa Hayes – and trained peer consultants who were selected for their outstanding academic work. Our staff is eager to help clients improve academic performance. Many of our peer consultants have taken the classes you’re in now; so, they can speak from direct experience about a professor’s expectations and preferences. We also have the “Mini” Cooper Center in Burt 113 staffed by Dr. Hayes for the convenience of Adult and Graduate students.

The Cooper Center also houses all tutoring on campus to increase student performance and retention. We provide individual and small group, out-of-class, peer-facilitated sessions.

We use two online scheduling systems—one for writing consultations with our Cooper Center consultants, WC Online, and the other, Tutor Matching Service, for tutoring appointments. You can access both sites by clicking on the appointment buttons and making an account. We also have an eTutoring option on WC Online for adult and graduate students who may not have access to our face-to-face writing consultations.

We look forward to working with you!
