Curtis Lecture on Public Leadership: Ambassador Chris Hill
O'Donnell Auditorium

This year's Curtis Lecture on Public Leadership will bring to campus Ambassador Chris Hill, chief advisor to the chancellor for global engagement and professor of the practice in diplomacy at the University of Denver. He is the former U.S. ambassador of the United States to the Republic of Korea, Iraq, Poland, and the Republic of Macedonia.

Hill was also special envoy to Kosovo from 1998 to 1999. He served as a special assistant to the president and a senior director on the staff of the National Security Council from 1999 to 2000.

From the wars in the Balkans to the brutality of North Korea to the endless war in Iraq, he will offer insight about the real life of an American diplomat. Based on his experiences, Ambassador Hill will lay out a vision for the role of diplomacy in addressing national crises, and how America should understand its role in global politics.

The free lecture titled, "Diplomacy at Work in Turbulent Times," will be held in O'Donnell Auditorium, located in the Rogers Center for Fine Arts at 50th Street and Huntington Ave.

Mildred Curtis established the Senator Carl T. Curtis and Mildred M. Curtis Lecture on Public Leadership in 2005 to honor her late husband and senator, and to explore aspects of public and civic leadership. The annual lecture features public service leaders such as federal and state officeholders, diplomats and leaders in areas of political science, history, human relations and communication.

International Film Series: "Duckweed"
Olin B Lecture Hall

The spring International Film Series continues with this Chinese comedy and drama, "Duckweed."

"Duckweed" is a winsome riff on "Back to the Future." Race car driver Lang (Chao Deng) wins the race of his career but still harbors a grudge toward his stern father, Zheng (Eddie Peng), who never accepted his dreams. His life flashes before his eyes during a car accident, and goes step one further — Lang travels back in time to before he was born, befriending his youthful, immature father, an affable, cocksure gangster, and getting to know his mother (Liying Zhao), who died when he was a baby.

This film is 102 minutes and is not rated. It is free and open to the public.

Olin B Lecture Hall is located in the Olin Hall of Science, one block east of 50th Street and St. Paul Ave.
