The exhibit features six artists: Qwist Joseph of Riverside, Calif.; Michael Ian Larsen of Lincoln, Emily Newman of Des Moines, Iowa; Erin Schoenbeck of Lincoln, Amanda Smith of Omaha, and Michael Villarreal of Lincoln.

Knight Field House

Teams of students, faculty and staff will spend the night walking for the American Cancer Society at our annual Relay for Life.

Activities begin at 6 p.m. Friday in Knight Field House, located in the Weary Center, and will continue through 6 a.m. on Saturday, April 16. Many activities, music, food, a luminary ceremony, survivor walk, and more are planned. Participants are not required to walk all night long.

Visiting Writers Series: Brian Blanchfield
Callen Conference Center

The Spring Visiting Writers Series continues with poet/essayist Brian Blanchfield, visit faculty at The Iowa Writers' Workshop.

Blanchfield is the author of three books of poetry and prose, most recently Proxies (Nightboat Books, 2016; Picador UK, 2017), which is a collection of essays of cultural close reading and a dicey autobiography, for which he received a 2016 Whiting Award in nonfiction. His second book of poems, A Several World (Nightboat, 2014), was the recipient of The Academy of American Poets’ 2014 James Laughlin Award and a longlist finalist for The National Book Award. His poetry and prose have appeared in Harper’s, The Oxford American, The Nation, and The Paris Review.

His reading begins at 6 p.m. in Callen Conference Center, located on the lower level of the Smith-Curtis Administration Building.

The Spring Visiting Writers Series reading are free and open to the public.

Holder Lecture: Tessa Jolls, "Powershift: Redefining Our Media Relationships and Culture"

Tessa Jolls is the president and CEO of the Center for Media Literacy. She also founded the Consortium for Media Literacy, a nonprofit which provides research and a monthly newsletter publication. During her tenure at CML, Jolls' primary focus has been working in partnership to demonstrate how media literacy works through school and community-based implementation programs.

Her lecture, "Powershift: Redefining Our Media Relationships and Culture," is part of the annual Holder Lecture Series, which brings to campus a scholar in language theory, writing, or education. The lecture is named after Kenneth R. Holder, Professor of English and Provost at Nebraska Wesleyan University.

The lecture is free and open to the public.

Internship Showcase
Smith-Curtis Classrooms

Through formal presentations, students will educate their peers on their recent internship experiences. Each presentation will include a brief overview of the sponsoring organization and the intern's role, key highlights about their internship experience, insight about how relevant coursework applied to the internship experience, and helpful advice for future interns.

Presentations will be held throughout the evening in Smith-Curtis classrooms.
