Nebraska Wesleyan University will celebrate Constitution Day and Citizenship Day when it hosts a naturalization ceremony on Friday, September 16 for 129 new citizens from 38 countries.
The ceremony will begin at 2 p.m. in O’Donnell Auditorium, located at 50th Street and Huntington Ave. The Honorable Senior District Judge Warren K. Urbom will preside over the services. The program will include the talk “Becoming American” by Nebraska Wesleyan University student Michelle Zhang who was naturalized in 2010.
A reception will follow the ceremony.
Constitution Day was established as a holiday in 2004 and marks the date in 1787 on which delegates to the Philadelphia Convention compiled and signed the U.S. constitution.
In addition to the naturalization ceremony, Nebraska Wesleyan University will recognize Constitution Day with:
- A display of the articles and amendments of the U.S. Constitution — Great Hall, Smith-Curtis Administration Building, September 12-16
- A display of books that would have been banned were it not for the First Amendment of the Constitution — Great Hall, Smith-Curtis Administration Building, September 12-16
- Discussion of three current events involving constitutional rights — Friday, September 16, noon, Prairie Wolf A, Story Student Center
