A Nebraska Wesleyan University custodial team leader has been honored with the C.O.R.E. Award for her work with the recent Johnson Hall renovation.
Amy Stanek was named a C.O.R.E. Award winner during a recent all-staff meeting. The C.O.R.E. Award recognizes and rewards staff whose efforts and contributions significantly exceed expectations in demonstrating or promoting one or more of the core values including excellence, liberal arts, personal attention to students, diversity, community, and stewardship.
Nominators pointed to Stanek’s demonstration of excellence through her work with the Johnson Hall renovation. Stanek was immediately involved in the planning and execution of the renovation since its earliest stages. She spearheaded the removal, storage, and disposal of old furnishings; contacted distributors and organized model furnishings; and resolved issues involving flooring, lighting, electric and safety issues, and handicap accessibility requirements. She was also the primary contact for many of the contractors and subcontractors.
“These responsibilities are to be considered with the realization that these duties were in addition to overseeing and supervising a group of 20 full-time custodial staff, part-time summer staff, addressing daily emails, monitoring and ordering custodial supplies, campus-wide furniture purchasing and installation, and many other responsibilities that only she, herself knows,” said the nominator.
Stanek was also recognized for her vast knowledge of the workings of NWU and her ability to prioritize responsibilities and bring together information from varied multiple sources while keeping the big picture in mind.
“The facilities/maintenance department, which can have its own unique job stresses, seems to have these stresses moderated by a supervisor who is always quick to laugh, choosing to see the good, and not dwelling on the difficulties,” said the nominator.
