Sandy Ferrell, human resources assistant, has been recognized with the university's C.O.R.E Award.

The award promotes Nebraska Wesleyan University's core values by recognizing and rewarding staff whose efforts and contributions significantly exceed expectations in demonstrating or promoting one or more of the those values: excellence, liberal arts, personal attention to students, diversity, community, and stewardship.

Sandy Ferrell has worked at Nebraska Wesleyan for 28 years, serving as the human resources assistant for 16 years. Sandy's value to Nebraska Wesleyan University was evident in the way she helped cover key human resources functions for eight months while the university was without a human resources director.

Those nominating Sandy for the award cited her helpfulness in addressing human resources questions including helping with the hiring and on-boarding process for new staff and faculty.

"Sandy was a great help to me when I assumed my new responsibilities," said T.J. McDowell, associate vice president. "I know that Tish Gade-Jones also appreciated Sandy's help and leadership while Nancy Cookson was out. She was patient and always had the answer or could direct me to the answer for my many questions."

Maria Harder has shared how grateful she is to have Sandy's assistance as she has transitioned into her role as Director of Human Resources.

"Sandy is gracious and provides a customer-centered service for all internal and external customers.  She handles overwhelming amounts of information and interruptions in her work with poise."

Sandy was recognized during the September staff meeting on September 12.
