Robert Zubrin will discuss Mars colonization at a Feb. 28 lecture.

Robert Zubrin, a world-renowned engineer, best-selling author, and a leading space exploration authority will discuss the case for Mars at an upcoming Nebraska Wesleyan University lecture.

Zubrin will deliver the university’s Fetzer science lecture, “The Case for Mars: The Plan to Settle the Red Planet and Why We Must,” on Thursday, February 28 at 1 p.m. in Olin B Lecture Hall.

Zubrin is a former senior engineer for Lockheed Martin, and the founder and president of Pioneer Astronautics, a hands-on research and development company dedicated to inventing and proving new technologies to advance humanity’s reach into space and to improve life on Earth.

Zubrin founded the International Mars Society, an organization made up of individuals dedicated to furthering the exploration and settlement of Mars by both public and private means. He personally led the construction and operation of a human Mars exploration training session on Devon Island, an uninhabited island in the Canadian Arctic.

Zubrin is the author of the bestselling book “The Case for Mars” as well as several science fiction novels. His latest book, “Merchants of Despair: Radical Environmentalists, Criminal Pseudo-Scientists, and the Fatal Cult of Antihumanism” follows his ideology that human beings are a cancer upon Earth. His previous book, “Energy Victory: Winning the War on Terror by Breaking Free of Oil,” presented his bold plan for breaking economic stranglehold that the OPEC oil cartel has on the country and world.

His lecture at Nebraska Wesleyan University is free and open to the public. The lecture will also be webcast on the university’s website. He will be available for a book signing following his lecture.

The Amos Fetzer and Alice Fetzer Memorial Lecture was established by Dr. W.R. Fetzer (’17) in memory of his parents. The lectureship is designed to bring to campus distinguished scholars in science, math, computer science, and the environment.
