Nebraska Wesleyan University’s fifth annual Bowls for Backpacks was another success, raising over $9,000 for the Food Bank of Lincoln.

Nearly 450 people attended Bowls for Backpacks on Sunday, February 24. Over its five years, the NWU benefit has raised nearly $40,000.

Guests attending had a choice from 950 handmade ceramic bowls and a soup lunch. All proceeds benefitted the Food Bank of Lincoln’s BackPack Program, which sends food home on weekends with children who might not otherwise have a meal. This year, the Food Bank of Lincoln is providing 3,516 backpacks to area school children each Friday.

Bowls for the fundraiser were made by NWU students, staff and alumni, Lincoln Public School students, civic organizations, trauma patients, and community members.
