Nominations Needed for Leadership Awards Reception

The Action Council on Diversity and Inclusion invites you to submit nominations of qualified students, faculty, and staff for the 2015 Leadership Awards reception.

Please send names for one or more of the following award categories via email to tmcdowe2 [at] nebrwesleyan.edu (T.J. McDowell). Recipients of the following awards will receive a plaque as well as a scholarship/stipend to put towards their future efforts to increasing diversity awareness and enhancing the campus environment.

Nominations must be submitted by Friday, March 27. Please include a brief detailed rationale (2-3 sentences) for your nominations. 

Student Advocate for Diversity
Acknowledges students who raise awareness and recognize a need, problem, or opportunity that should be addressed regarding diverse populations and diversity issues. This student inspires others to share their vision and goals for diversity, and advocates a practical solution or course of action to benefit the common good, while fostering meaningful relationships with peers from diverse backgrounds. Above all the nominee should demonstrate a willingness to challenge generalizations and stereotypes of diverse populations and communicate effectively with people of varied backgrounds. Nominator must be a faculty, staff, or student of NWU.

Faculty Advocate for Diversity
Acknowledges faculty at NWU for qualities and criteria that are stated above for the Student Advocate for Diversity. In addition this individual should have a record of helping students to learn to communicate effectively with people of varied backgrounds as well as helping them to become self-advocates. Nominator must be a faculty, staff, or student of NWU.

Staff Advocate for Diversity
Acknowledges staff at NWU for qualities and criteria that are stated above for the Student Advocate for Diversity. In addition this individual should have a record of helping students to learn to communicate effectively with people of varied backgrounds as well as helping them to become self-advocates. Nominator must be a faculty, staff, or student of NWU.

Mary Butler Award (student award only)
Acknowledges a junior or senior who identifies as a student of color, and is in good academic standing with the university. This student shall exude an enthusiasm to serve both the Wesleyan and Lincoln community by adding a freshness and a new dimension to either their organization(s) or to the people with whom the nominee has been involved. This student should be sensitive and knowledgeable about campus needs and demonstrate the ability to enrich the campus through extracurricular involvement. Qualities to consider are initiative, creativity, responsibility, cooperation, leadership, and concern for others. Nominator must be a faculty, staff, or student of NWU.
