Award-winning Commentator Leonard Pitts to Give Lecture on Race, Poverty

Award-winning commentator, journalist and novelist Leonard Pitts will visit Nebraska Wesleyan University on Monday, April 13 to discuss race and poverty.

Pitts is a nationally-syndicated columnist and winner of the 2004 Pulitzer Prize for commentary. His novel, "Freeman," gives a harrowing picture of life for newly-freed slaves following the end of the Civil War.

His free lecture begins at noon in Callen Conference Center, which is located on the lower level of the Smith-Curtis Administration Building. 

Pitts will be in Lincoln for the Peacemaking Workshop XXIX on April 12 at First United Methodist Church, 50th Street and St. Paul Ave. Pitts will be the event's keynote speaker. 

His lecture at Nebraska Wesleyan is sponsored by the University Forum Committee.
