Four NWU Students Honored at NCIF Art Show

The Nebraska Independent College Foundation and the O’Keefe Elevator Company hosted its annual art show on April 8 and recognized four Nebraska Wesleyan University art students.

Nebraska Wesleyan University senior Jared Flores of Lincoln won “best of show” for his oil on birch titled “1955.” Other NWU award winners were: Sean C. Peterson of Wayne, first place, two-dimensional foam core print; Sarah Mattison of Lincoln, second place, three-dimensional steel piece; and Victoria Thoendel of David City, third place, three-dimensional metal bracelet. Dan Leatherman of Waverly was presented with a special award for a work that received the most attention for his mock sculpture of a street person sleeping on a bench.

In total, 12 awards were presented of the more than 100 entries submitted. The competition was judged by three jurors.

All of the entries remain on display through April at the O’Keefe Elevator Company, located at 1402 Jones Street in Omaha. Gallery hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays.
