Nebraska Wesleyan University has hired Dr. Nancy Biggs, Associate Superintendent for Human Resources at Lincoln Public Schools, to lead its Education Department, beginning August 1.

“Nebraska Wesleyan is fortunate to find such an experienced teacher and administrator to add to our talented team of faculty in the Education Department,” said NWU Provost Judy Muyskens. “I am confident that she will work with our faculty to grow the department and expand our offerings in education.”

“Dr. Biggs’ fine reputation and ties to the community will be invaluable for NWU as she develops and eventually leads several inter-institutional initiatives,” Muyskens added.

Biggs has worked for Lincoln Public Schools for 38 years in a variety of capacities including posts as teacher, team leader, and coordinator, as well as in various positions in LPS Human Resources. She has served in her current position since 2004, and was Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources from 1994-2004. She has a doctorate of education from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln with emphasis in administration, curriculum, and instruction. She has a long list of state and national honors, professional memberships, and presentations. She will retire from LPS at the end of the 2012-2013 school year.

In addition to chairing Nebraska Wesleyan’s Education Department and teaching, Biggs will develop cooperative agreements to enhance teacher education in Lincoln and will help NWU build more relationships with Lincoln Public Schools and other school systems in Nebraska.

“I am looking forward to working at a university that has such a great reputation,” said Biggs. “Taking what I have learned from my roles at LPS and applying it at Nebraska Wesleyan is a perfect next step in my career.”
