Brent Echols

Nebraska Wesleyan University Director of Bands Brent Echols is an accomplished conductor, educator, and arts leader dedicated to building vibrant band programs and cultivating musical excellence at every level. In his current role at Nebraska Wesleyan University, he oversees the university band program, conducts concert ensembles, jazz ensembles, and pep band, teaches undergraduate courses in conducting and music education, and mentors the next generation of music educators and performers.

Prior to his appointment at Nebraska Wesleyan University, Echols served as Interim Director of Bands at Slippery Rock University, where he conducted the Wind Ensemble, Concert Band, and the Slippery Rock University Marching Pride while teaching courses in conducting and music education. His leadership focused on artistic growth, student engagement, and creating meaningful performance experiences both on and off the podium.

Echols also served for two years as Interim Director of Bands at Loyola University New Orleans. He pursued a Doctor of Arts degree in Wind Conducting at Ball State University, studying with Dr. Thomas Caneva. While at Ball State, he conducted the Wind Ensemble and New Music Ensemble and completed a graduate certificate in Entrepreneurship and New Music Entrepreneurship.

He holds both a Master of Music degree in Wind Conducting and a Bachelor of Music Education degree from Michigan State University, where he studied with Dr. Kevin Sedatole. During his time at Michigan State, Echols served as a graduate assistant with the MSU Bands program, conducting the MSU Wind Symphony, Symphony Band, Concert Band, and assisting with the Spartan Marching Band and Spartan Brass.

Before entering higher education, Echols built a successful career in public school music education in Florida and Texas. He served as Director of Bands at Plantation High School in Florida, where he oversaw all aspects of the band program, and previously taught as Percussion Director and Assistant Band Director at Robert E. Lee High School in Tyler, Texas.

Known for his energetic leadership, collaborative spirit, and commitment to student success, Brent Echols continues to inspire performers and audiences through innovative programming, dynamic performances, and a passion for excellence in music education.
