Nebraska Wesleyan University’s Symphonic Band will perform its annual Homecoming Pops Concerts on Sunday, September 20 and will be accompanied by Broadway star Ivan Rutherford.

Rutherford has performed in a number of productions, but is most recognized for his portrayal of Jean Valjean in Les Miserables for over 2,000 shows. It is this role that won his nomination for "Best Actor" at the first annual National Broadway Theatre Awards, as well as praise from many acclaimed critics. This year's Pops Concert marks Rutherford's second performance alongside NWU's ensemble.

Rutherford will also perform the National Anthem at Saturday’s football game at 1 p.m. in Abel Stadium.

The Pops Concert begins at 5:30 p.m. Sunday in O'Donnell Auditorium, located in the Rogers Center for Fine Arts, 50th Street and Huntington Ave. During the concert, the Department of Music will also honor music alumni award recipients, Sondra Reesman-Stoltenberg (’83) and Ashley (Andrews) Leader (’09).

The concert is free and open to the public.
