Dr. Rita McGuire has been named the new Director of Nursing at Nebraska Wesleyan University.

McGuire has taught nursing at Nebraska Wesleyan since 2009 and previously was a research project coordinator at the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) College of Nursing. In addition, she has served as a graduate assistant at UNMC, was a clinical/lab instructor at Southeast Community College, and worked at medical facilities in southeast Nebraska and northeast Kansas. Her dissertation research on postmenopausal breast cancer survivors was recently published in the Western Journal of Nursing Research.

“This is an exciting time to be involved in nursing education,” said McGuire. “There are many challenges and opportunities as our profession strives to increase both the numbers and level of education of nurses.”

McGuire takes over for Dr. Jeri Brandt, who has served as Director of Nursing since 2006.

Nebraska Wesleyan offers a variety of nursing programs in both Lincoln and Omaha, including RN-BSN and MSN degrees, and post-graduate certificates in education and administration. Classes for working nurses meet one day a week, and courses are offered in eight-week sessions in both Lincoln and Omaha.
