John B. Greving of St. Paul, Minnesota, will join Nebraska Wesleyan University as Vice President for Advancement on March 1.
John has extensive, successful experience as a leader in education and as a fundraiser. He brings to Nebraska Wesleyan a sophisticated and balanced understanding of advancement work, along with a passion for striving to fulfill the missions of high quality independent educational institutions. He has worked extensively with boards of trustees comprised of alumni and community leaders.
John’s recent experience includes executive director of the Sister Kenny Foundation, the fundraising arm of a healthcare organization founded 70 years ago in Minneapolis that is a leader in physical rehabilitation; and chief executive of a charter school in St. Paul serving students in kindergarten through the eighth grade.
John served for 12 years as Headmaster of Saint Thomas Academy, a well-regarded Roman Catholic college preparatory boys’ military academy in St. Paul for boarders and day students in grades 7 through 12. He led a very successful upgrade of fundraising, alumni relations, refinement of the institutional image, and the stewardship of philanthropy at Saint Thomas Academy. His earlier experience included more than a dozen years as a teacher and assistant principal in public and parochial schools in Wisconsin, North Dakota, and Oregon.
John earned his B. A. at the University of Notre Dame and he holds a master’s degree in educational administration from North Dakota State University. For two years after college he traveled and worked in Europe and Asia.
John is married to Barbara Ryan Greving, an artist who is a graduate of North Dakota State University. Both John and Barbara grew up in Fargo, North Dakota. They are the parents of two adult children who completed their college studies at St. Norbert College in Wisconsin and at Creighton University in Omaha.
