Canadian Internship Gives NWU Student First-Hand Experience in Cancer Research

Senior Joseph Roper spent the summer interning at McGill University working alongside NWU alumna Koren Mann, associate professor of oncology at McGill University. They researched the role of a particular enzyme on cancer mutations.

Roper's research at McGill University in Montreal, Canada, gave him meaningful experiences for both his French and biology majors.

"You need to be stretched and pulled to become a better person and to grow. What better way to do that than to get up and go," Roper said of his decision to study abroad in France.

Nursing Students Travel to London to Compare Healthcare Systems

NWU nursing professors Molly Fitzke and Linda Hardy led a group of undergraduate and graduate nursing students to London to compare healthcare systems between the U.S. and UK.

Florence Nightingale's infamous lantern is one of many artifacts on display at the Florence Nightingale Museum in London.

Undergraduate nursing students valued the opportunity to participate in the trip with graduate students and learn from their expertise and experiences.

Nursing students traveled to London where they visited St. Joseph’s Health Care, met with nursing faculty from Anglican Ruskin University of Nursing and toured the Royal College of Nursing.

Senior Tests Spanish Skills Through Study Abroad in Mexico

Senior Randi Knox spent a semester in Mexico where she was about to put her Spanish-speaking skills to the test.

While studying in Mexico, Knox gave a bilingual presentation at a high school in Puebla where her host mom teaches.

Knox visited her host dad's relatives where she learned to make tortillas.

Knox takes an excursion near Cuetzalan, Puebla, near the famous Pata del Perro.

Knox enjoys the view on the staircase to the Gran Piramide de Cholula, the world's largest pyramid.

Actress Ready to Perform Shakespeare Following London Study Abroad Experience

NWU junior Natalia Spengler studied abroad at the London Academy of Music and Art where she studied Shakespeare and refined her acting style. She will perform in the fall production of "Comedy of Errors."

In addition to acting classes, Spengler visited the Globe Theatre, Stratford-upon-Avon, and attended performances at the Royal Shakespeare Company.

Pille Põiklik, an English professor at the University of Tartu in Estonia, has spent the last several weeks at NWU teaching Estonian culture and language.
