Master of Athletic Training

Post-baccalaureate graduate program starts May 2025

In May 2025, Nebraska Wesleyan University will offer a two-year post-baccalaureate graduate program for qualified students.

Students with a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., exercise science) will be able to apply directly for admission to the MAT program. MAT graduates will become immediately eligible to take the board of certification exam.

Choose the Nebraska Wesleyan difference.

NWU is a national leader for students passing the CAATE Board of Certification (BOC) exam on the first attempt, which is required to be a certified athletic trainer. Our athletic training undergraduates have built an outstanding 94% BOC exam pass rate in the past 10 years.

Our student employment rate is equally impressive. The percentage of NWU students who secure jobs as an athletic trainer within six months of graduation is 82%, with the remaining 18% successfully finding employment in other job sectors.

Here's what makes NWU’s athletic training program so unique

Top clinical rotations
Complete 12 rotations from 20+ partnering clinical sites, including colleges, high schools, sports medicine clinics and general clinics.

Outstanding educational experiences
NWU’s professors are practicing clinicians who value hands-on learning. Our first-year cadaver dissection course gives valuable insights on the body. Choose a specialty certification, like manual therapy or CPR/AED instruction.

Nationally recognized practitioners
NWU partners with 45+ clinical practitioners, including a U.S. athletic trainer of the year, a Nebraska athletic training hall of famer and a national Athletic Training Association director.

Research excellence
NWU integrates research into every athletic training course. Attend state, district and national conferences and present your work on a national stage.

Professional recognition
NWU students are consistently honored with state, regional and national athletic training awards. Four NWU students have recently swept honors in all three levels.

Strong alumni network
NWU alumni work in professional settings ranging from schools, universities and clinics to MLB, WWE, the Mayo Clinic and U.S. Army. They also work in medical fields such as physical therapy, occupational therapy and orthopedics.
