Sean Steele begins his third full season as the head soccer coach at Nebraska Wesleyan University. Steele is the head coach of both the men’s and women’s soccer programs.
Last season, Steele led the NWU women to a 5-10-3 overall record, with a 4-4-2 mark in the Great Plains Athletic Conference to finish sixth in the league standings. The NWU men were 8-7-3 overall giving the Prairie Wolves men their first winning record since 2008. NWU was fifth in the league standings with a 5-4-1 conference mark. He had five men and three women earn All-Conference honors in his second season.
In his first season with the Prairie Wolves, Steele led the men’s team to a 6-12 overall mark, winning five of the final eight games of the season. The men finished 4-6 in the GPAC to tie for seventh place. He guided the women’s team to a 5-13 overall record, and a 2-8 GPAC record.
Steele has over 15 years of coaching experience on his resume. He was the assistant coach for both the men and women at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh for the past five seasons. While at UWO he helped coach the men to two trips to the NCAA III Tournament, including the 2010 team that advanced to the Final Four and placed third. He also guided the women to the NCAA Tournament in 2006.
Steele has earned his USSF National “B” License, USSF National Youth License and NSCAA Goalkeeper Diploma. He served as a Wisconsin Olympic Development (ODP) staff coach and a USSF licensing instructor for Wisconsin Youth Soccer Association. He also was a Director of Coaching for the Oshkosh United Soccer Club.
He played soccer collegiately at Wisconsin-Oshkosh for three seasons helping UWO to a 40-15-2 record during that time and a trip to the third round of the NCAA III Tournament. Steele earned his Bachelor of Science degree in anthropology from Wisconsin-Oshkosh in 2001 and his Master of Science degree in educational leadership from Wisconsin-Oshkosh in 2009.
The Oshkosh, Wis., native and his wife Kathy reside in Lincoln. The couple have a son, Liam (1).
