NWU’s BFA Program Audition and Interview Process

Nebraska Wesleyan University offers a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Acting, Directing, Musical Theatre, and Theatre Studies. Prospective students interested in these programs need to apply, audition, interview, and submit materials for admission consideration.

Auditioning for the BFA Acting/Musical Theatre Programs

Candidates must audition to enter Nebraska Wesleyan’s BFA programs in acting and musical theatre. NWU holds individual auditions and interviews on campus between September and April.

Students may also audition in Chicago (UNIFIEDS) or at the regional thespian festivals NWU attends.

NWU Theatre distributes scholarship offers by April 15.

Audition Requirements

Applicants for our BFA in acting must audition with the following:

  • Two contrasting monologues from modern plays. (You may replace one modern monologue with 20-30 lines of verse monologue or soliloquy from Shakespeare.)

Applicants for our BFA in musical theatre must audition with the following:

  • A one-minute monologue from a modern play
  • Two contrasting renditions from Broadway musicals of 16-32 memorized bars

Scheduling your Audition

General Information

  • We hold on-campus auditions by appointment between September and April.
  • Our Chicago UNIFIEDS slots are scheduled tentatively for February.
  • You will receive equal consideration regardless of your audition site.

Auditioning on campus

Auditioning at Festivals

  • If you’re planning on auditioning at a regional thespian festival, contact Aly Faber at afaber [at] nebrwesleyan.edu to determine if Nebraska Wesleyan University will be attending.
  • For Chicago UNIFIEDS auditions: You MUST email Aly at afaber [at] nebrwesleyan.edu to schedule an audition time.

For both UNIFIEDS and other regional Thespian Festivals, you are required to set up an Acceptd account so our theatre department is able to reach you.

  • Video Submissions
    Please make sure your video submissions (introduction, monologues, songs, dances) are separate, short clips. These are easier for you to edit and for us to review.
  • Email Notification
    You’ll receive email confirmation once the department faculty has reviewed your submission.
  • Deadlines
    Please have any videos submitted before April 3rd.

For out-of-state candidates who are unable to visit Nebraska Wesleyan University’s campus for an on-site audition or won’t be attending a thespian festival regularly attended by NWU, please upload a video to Acceptd. This video will be used as your audition into the program as well as for scholarships. Pre-screening materials can be found at http://app.getacceptd.com/nebrwesleyan.

Application Process for the BFA in Directing and Theatre Studies Programs

Applicants must interview prior to entering Nebraska Wesleyan’s BFA programs in directing and theatre studies. NWU holds individual interviews on campus between September and April.

Students may also interview in Chicago (UNIFIEDS) or at the regional thespian festivals NWU attends.

NWU Theatre distributes scholarship offers by April 15.

Interview Requirements:

Applicants must bring the following:

  • A résumé
  • Examples of your work in photographs, prompt-scripts, slides or drawings of productions
  • Examples of related skills (e.g. painting, drawing, sewing, handwork, woodworking, etc.)
