Parent and Family Programs on August 18

First walk

The Wednesday before classes start, August 18, is a big day for new students, as well as for their parents and families. For family members who are able to join us on campus, we have several events scheduled.

University Minister Eduardo Bousson and Vice President for Student Life Sarah Kelen will extend an official welcome to parents and families of new students at 4:15 p.m. At the same time, students will be greeted by President Darrin Good and Student Body President Jacob Mason.

Following the respective welcomes, students take their First Walk, a Nebraska Wesleyan tradition where new students step onto campus through the arch at 50th Street and St. Paul Avenue. This tradition symbolizes students’ beginning to living and learning at NWU. They’ll be cheered along the path by faculty and returning students. Families and guests will be guided to locations along the route to cheer and take photos.

Afterward, you can join up with your student on the lawn north of the Student Center for refreshments, as well as some reassuring hugs and final words of advice. To allow your student to fully participate in orientation activities the rest of the evening, we respectfully ask that all parents and families depart campus by 5:45 p.m.
