The Adult Undergraduate Health Care Management Certificate is designed to impart the practical knowledge and organizational skills expected of today's health care managers. Combining courses in communication, ethics, accounting, management and leadership, the program provides valuable business training for health care workers seeking administrative or management roles, such as managing a medical clinic or heading a department, such as in a hospital or long term care facility.
Nebraska Wesleyan students can earn the Health Care Management Certificate alone, or use the coursework towards a bachelor's degree in business or nursing.
An Adult Undergraduate Health Care Management Certificate will help you develop management, leadership, and communication skills, as well as critical thinking and problem solving so you will be able to communicate your ideas effectively. Additionally you will acquire business management skills essential for running a small medical practice or large health care facility department.
Hospitals, doctors’ offices, and nursing and residential care facilities employ large numbers of office and administrative support workers. In larger facilities, top administrators may manage personnel, finances, facility operations, and admissions. In small medical groups, an office manager might handle daily business affairs; while in larger groups, an administrator may help formulate business strategies, as well as coordinate day-to-day business.
People planning a career in health care management must be able to handle responsibility, work independently, and maintain good working relationships with clients and coworkers. In addition, communication skills, critical thinking, listening, nonverbal communication, and problem-solving abilities are valuable assets. They should have an aptitude for mathematics and be able to analyze, compare, and interpret facts and figures quickly. Health care managers must be good at working with people, business systems, and computers. Because business decisions are made on the basis of their statements and services, they should have high standards of integrity.
The program consists of completing 16 hours of coursework.
