Mitch Kurtenbach


Mitch Kurtenbach began at Nebraska Wesleyan University in the fall of 2016 and serves as an Athletic Trainer in the Sports Medicine department.  He is the primary Athletic Trainer for men’s soccer, women’s basketball, and softball. Kurtenbach also serves as an HHP/AT instructor as well as a preceptor for the Athletic Training Education Program at NWU.

In the fall of 2021, Kurtenbach, and the Sports Medicine Staff, was recognized in the fall of 2021 with the University's CORE Award. The Sports Medicine staff was honored for upholding the core vaules of the institution and going above and beyond the call of duty to keep student-athletes and coaches healthy and safety a top priority during the COVID-19 global health pandemic.

Prior to joining the NWU Sports Medicine staff, Kurtenbach worked for Faith Regional Health Services in Norfolk, Nebraska, as an outreach Athletic Trainer to local high schools.  He also managed a See The Trainer sports medicine store.  While there he fit braces, managed inventory, and worked with various insurance companies and billing.

Kurtenbach received a Master's of Education degree in Exercise Science in 2014 from the University of Nebraska at Kearney while serving as a graduate assistant Athletic Trainer on the Sports Medicine Staff.  He primarily covered football, cross country, and baseball.

 An alumnus of Nebraska Wesleyan University, Kurtenbach received his Bachelor's degree in Athletic Training in 2012.  A native of Lindsay Nebraska, he currently resides in Lincoln with his wife, Amanda, and two children, Lena and Theo.
