Students enrolled in Nebraska Wesleyan University’s adult and graduate programs in Omaha are learning in new classrooms after the university moved to its new location off 140th and Dodge near Boys Town.
“Our new educational site in Omaha represents a significant augmentation of Nebraska Wesleyan’s footprint in the Omaha community,” said Elizabeth MacLeod Walls, dean of NWU’s University College. “At this site, we’ll continue to offer programs for adults and graduate students, but its size and location also allow us to reach out to traditional students, parents, alumni and friends in new ways.”
Programs in Omaha benefiting from the new facility’s increased space include the new MBA program, the MSN/MBA joint degree and MSN to MBA Bridge programs as well as programs in business, criminal justice, health science, nursing, organizational communication and social work.
In 2004 Nebraska Wesleyan opened an Omaha location with three programs offered in a 4,500 square foot space. Ten years later on the top floor of the First National Bank Building, students now enjoy over 12,000 square feet of classrooms, study areas, administrative offices and event space to accommodate those enrolled in the six bachelor’s degree and four master’s degree programs. The university’s Omaha site served more than 200 students — a substantial increase from the eight students enrolled 10 years ago.
“The move also provides the flexibility necessary to respond to future opportunities with new academic offerings,” said Walls.
The facility will also provide important space for alumni events and undergraduate enrollment activities.
“Omaha is where so many of our alumni are launching their careers and raising their families,” said Gordie Coffin, director of admissions. “With about 3,500 alumni living in the Omaha metro area, we have lots of partners and friends to work closely with as we recruit Omaha students.”
The new location also provides more parking and increased security.
NWU’s Omaha location is also in good company. Neighbors include Boys Town, C&A Industries, First National Bank, Tenaska, Valmont Industries and Yahoo.
Classes started June 30. An official ribbon cutting ceremony will be held August 12 at 5 p.m.
