Visiting Assistant Professor of Chemistry

Nebraska Wesleyan University is seeking applications for a one-year, Visiting Assistant Professor of Chemistry for the 2020-2021 academic year (starting August 17, 2020 through May 14, 2021).  Nebraska Wesleyan is a liberal arts institution with approximately 2,100 students and is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission.  Candidates from all fields of study within the chemistry discipline will be considered.  This is a full-time benefit eligible position, which includes a comprehensive package including health, vision and dental insurance benefits, retirement benefits, a generous holiday schedule, and undergraduate tuition remission for employee’s dependents among other benefits.


Faculty responsibilities include teaching twelve credit hours per term, fall and spring semesters.  Teaching assignments will be in the general and/or organic chemistry lecture and lab sequences, and an upper level course in the candidate’s field of chemistry.  Opportunities to supervise undergraduate research are available. Nebraska Wesleyan University has an ACS-certified chemistry major and a biochemistry/molecular biology major.  The successful candidate will be expected to attend department, school, and campus-wide meetings, as needed, and stay current in one's academic discipline.

  • A doctorate degree in Chemistry is preferred, or MS plus 18 completed credit hours towards a doctoral degree required in a related field
  • Familiarity with Canvas course technology or similar LMS software is a plus
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and innovative teaching skills are required 
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with faculty and students is essential
  • Strong commitment to student-centered active learning and student engagement activities
  • Appreciation for a liberal arts tradition 

Upon hire, final rank will be determined by the Provost commensurate with experience and education.
