Associate Director of Diversity and Inclusion
Nebraska Wesleyan University seeks applications for an Associate Director of Diversity and Inclusion. The Associate Director of Diversity and Inclusion works with the Assistant Dean for Student Success, Diversity and Inclusion to develop, implement, and assess initiatives that support the personal, social, and intellectual growth of underrepresented students on campus.
This position is a full-time 12-month, exempt position; with some evening and weekend work as needed. - Provides academic and personal support to underrepresented students with particular attention to improving persistence towards graduation. Collaborates with other Student Life staff members in support of underrepresented students. Serves as an outreach coordinator to underrepresented students for the CARE Team by utilizing CARE Connect and other campus resources; researches issues concerning underrepresented populations in higher education; implements and assesses programs that demonstrate best practices in supporting underrepresented or marginalized populations.
- Develops campus-wide programming and educational activities that support diversity, equity, and inclusion activities including the annual MLK holiday celebration and heritage month celebrations.
- Supervises both the Office of Diversity and Inclusion student worker(s) and Intersectionality Resource Center student coordinator(s). Supports relevant student diversity organizations, and advocates on their behalf.
- Serves as a member of the Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility Committee; collaborates with faculty, staff, and students on campus-wide diversity programs and initiatives.
- Collaborates with other Student Life staff on programming and activities that support student diversity, equity, and inclusion, including serving on the Bias Education Response Team (BERT), participating in the development and delivery of New Student Orientation and Prairie Wolves Welcome. May also include other roles such as serving as the university’s NCAA Athletics Diversity and Inclusion Designee.
- Teaches up to two one-credit hour courses under the Student Life (STLF) department, each academic year.
- Assists the Assistant Dean for Student Success, Diversity and Inclusion with the evaluation of current processes and innovation in retention strategies for underrepresented students. Assistance and support may also include, but is not limited to, data analysis, program development and review and outcomes assessment.
- Other responsibilities as assigned.
- Master’s degree and administrative experience required; 2+ years of experience directly related to diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives in a higher education setting.
- Vision, creativity, and leadership in Student Life with progressive administrative experience; student employee development experience; program development and assessment experience.
- Understanding of student development theory and the academic and other factors that foster student success; understanding of intersectionality of student identities as it impacts students personal and academic wellbeing.
- Strong interpersonal skills to support one on one or group mentorship of students.
- Experience developing diversity, equity, and inclusion programming.
- Experience designing and assessing student learning within student life.
- Understanding of current issues in higher education, and relevant laws, regulations, and standards related to higher education.
- Strong record of collaboration and consensus building across constituencies.
- Experience in establishing, directing and enforcing policies and regulations.
- Demonstrated skills in written, verbal, and interpersonal communication including conflict resolution and mediation skills; strong organizational skills; experience with data analysis and presentation.
- Experience working effectively with a diverse group of students, faculty, and staff.
- Demonstration of ability to maintain confidential information.
