Assistant Professor of Political Science

Nebraska Wesleyan University is seeking applications for a tenure track Assistant Professor of Political Science, beginning in the 2020-2021 academic year.  NWU is interested in candidates that complement the department’s existing strengths in comparative politics and international relations; therefore, candidates with a specialty in US Politics are preferred.  As a department, the Political Science faculty members are invested in mentoring faculty to become excellent teachers, as well as being deeply committed to diversity and inclusion, and welcome candidates from all backgrounds.

Responsibilities

Faculty responsibilities include teaching twelve credit hours per term, fall and spring semesters, including day and possible evening undergraduate classes. Preferred candidates will be able to teach widely across the subfield of US Politics, including the introductory course. Ideal candidates will have an emphasis in the politics of race and/or gender. A candidate with interest in teaching courses in law and politics would be particularly welcome. We also welcome candidates with experience teaching writing instructive courses, particularly to first year students. 

Qualifications
  • A doctorate degree in Political Science is preferred; advanced ABD will be considered;
  • Experience with teaching various types of writing skills to students through assigned coursework;
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and innovative teaching skills are required; 
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with faculty and students is essential;
  • Strong commitment to student-centered active learning and student engagement activities.
