Assistant Professor of Acting and Directing

Nebraska Wesleyan University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position with expertise in Acting and Directing for the Theatre Arts Program. The start date for this position will be August 2022.

Responsibilities

This faculty member will play an important role in coordinating and shaping NWU Theatre’s BFA degree programs. Primary responsibilities in this position include teaching acting, movement, and directing classes, including supervision of student directing projects. Commitment to teaching in NWU’s innovative Archway Curriculum is also anticipated. Depending on the applicant’s qualifications and areas of specialization, other duties may include stage direction of productions for Nebraska Wesleyan University’s theatre season, as well as teaching other theatre classes such as script analysis, musical theatre, voice, acting for the camera, voiceover acting, and/or playwriting. A strong commitment to participate in prospective student recruitment, academic advising, and community outreach is essential. 

Qualifications
  • Terminal degree (MFA or PhD) in Theatre.
  • Five or more years of professional acting and directing experience.
  • Previous teaching experience preferred.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other faculty, directors and designers.
  • Ability to maintain a strong, positive, professional approach to theatre training.

Final rank upon hire will be determined by the Provost commensurate with experience and education.
