Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)
The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) provides for specific rights to students regarding the privacy of their educational records. When a student reaches the age of 18 or attends a school beyond the high school level, all rights given to parents under FERPA transfer to the student. Contact the Registrar’s Office or Student Life Office if you have questions regarding circumstances in which we may share information to parents/guardians without student consent.
In college, students are responsible for their education and therefore all communication regarding money, registration, grades, etc. is made directly with the students. However, a student may wish for parent(s)/guardian(s) to be allowed to discuss with or request information from NWU, and may designate this permission. Designating NWU authorization to discuss/share information with a parent/guardian does not transfer responsibility or decision-making; the student is still ultimately responsible for all aspects for his/her education at Nebraska Wesleyan University.
In order to clearly indicate their wishes, students should complete the Educational Records Authorization Form on WebAdvisor. Log in to WebAdvisor using your NWU account username and password. Click on “Parent WebAdvisor Access” under “Other Information”. Complete the requested information and hit “Submit”.
