The 2011-12 campaign marks the first year for Will Delgado as Nebraska Wesleyan's assistant men's basketball coach.
Delgado arrives to Lincoln after most recently serving as video coordinator and manager at Indiana State University, an NCAA Division I institution and member of the Missouri Valley Conference. There he directly assisted the coaching staff and players with all aspects of video and film exchange, editing, practices and game preparation. Indiana State made a breakout season last year as they swept the field in the MVC Tournament, turning down instate rival Evansville and league favorites Wichita State and Missouri State to capture a bid to the NCAA National Tournament. It was their first championship in over 10 years and only their fourth title since Indiana State finished as the national runner up to Michigan State in 1979.
Prior to Indiana State, the Santa Cruz, CA native served as the assistant boys coach at Chicago's Lincoln Park High School. Those 5 seasons proved to be some of the best in the schools' 100+ year history. The Lions were ranked as high as #2 in the state of Illinois and graduated every senior during his tenure. Prior to Lincoln Park he helped guide Payton Prep to their first school league championship in only their 3rd year of existence.
During Delgado's career, ten players would continue on to play Division I basketball, including Northwestern's All-Big Ten selection, Michael "Juice" Thompson. He also well recognized as a coach and clinician at the famed 5 Star Basketball Camps, Snow Valley Basketball School, Pete Newell Tall Women's Camp, Los Angeles Lakers camp as well as various college camps around the country.
After graduating from high school, Delgado enrolled at the University of Kentucky and later completed a degree in Kinesiology and Physical Education at Indiana State University.
He played four seasons at Santa Cruz High School for Hall of Fame coach, Pete Newell Jr. (son of the late Basketball HOF coach Pete Newell). There he would earn the league sportsmanship award and be apart of two conference championships as well as the #1 seed in the section tournament.
Delgado is also a founding member of the Latino Association of Basketball Coaches, as well as an current member of the NABC and Nebraska Coaches Association while being a past member of the IBCA and AAPHERD.
He and his wife, Holly, reside in Lincoln with their son, Santiago.
