- Each facility has a professional staff consisting of a residence life coordinator and several peer assistants living on site. All are trained in CPR, basic first aid, and fire prevention.
- All facilities are secured 24 hours a day. Only the residents of each building can enter using an electronic key access system.
- All rooms have “coded” keys. If a room key is lost, the finder will not know the room number or the building of the key. Once a key is reported lost or stolen, the “core” of the lock can be readily changed to prevent entry by the person who found the key. Thus, the coded keys have a two-step protection system.
- Each hall has fire alarms, extinguishers, and smoke detectors on each floor.
- University residence halls are equipped with fire sprinklers.
Greek Houses
The fraternity and sorority chapter houses on the perimeter of the campus are not operated by Nebraska Wesleyan University.
Members should familiarize themselves with the particular safety and security procedures for their individual chapter. Members should follow the procedures for emergencies established by each chapter; generally these are to call 911 for life-threatening situations and to report criminal activity to the Lincoln Police Department.
The University’s security guards are not authorized to provide services to the interior of Greek houses. Access to Greek chapter houses is restricted to members and their invited guests. House Managers or chapter presidents will inform members of these policies and procedures.
Vehicle Safety
Tips to protect your vehicle and personal items while parking in and around NWU:
- Hide duffle bags, purses, cash, athletic equipment, and other valuables in
the trunk or in another compartment
- Detach stereo, cd player, and satellite radio face plates and hide them in the trunk or other compartment, or take it with you. If you do not have a detachable face plate, throw a tshirt or blanket over the CD player or other stereo equipment
