Nebraska Wesleyan University’s Commitment to Students

Your Nebraska Wesleyan experience will help you grow as an engaged and global citizen. Nebraska Wesleyan University is committed to providing you an excellent liberal arts education.

This is what we value.

Excellence

NWU is committed to excellence in the curricula, educational facilities, residence halls, and all programs available to students, as well as in the hiring and development of faculty and staff. Our curricula and programs:

  • enable students to gain and expand knowledge and skills,
  • develop competence for rational thought and communication,
  • broaden their perspectives on humanity and culture, and
  • develop their sense of individual worth.

Liberal Arts Education

NWU is committed to developing those habits of the mind which derive from the liberal arts:

  • intellectual curiosity,
  • critical and rational thinking,
  • creative and artistic expression,
  • respect for history and traditional values,
  • independent analysis,
  • and effective communication—
  • in short, the joy and freedom of intellectual inquiry and learning.

Experiential Learning

NWU takes learning further than the classroom so students can learn by doing:

  • Help Sudanese refugees learn English
  • Snorkel off the coast of Belize studying coral reefs
  • Intern at the U.S. State Department, in Bangkok, or Thailand.

Personal Attention

Recognizing that each student is a unique person with dignity and sacred worth, the NWU faculty and staff provide personal coaching, encouragement, and opportunities for all students to develop:

  • maturity,
  • personal responsibility, and
  • a sense of values.

Diversity

NWU provides programs, resources, and policies that broaden perspectives on humanity and its diverse cultural expressions locally, nationally, and internationally.

Community

NWU fosters a community which unites students, faculty, staff, Board members, alumni, parents, and friends in an environment of Christian concern and which seeks opportunities to serve the wider human community. Our emphasis on global citizenship and international study takes students all over the world to learn, teach, and work.

Stewardship

Recognizing our distinctive United Methodist heritage and values, NWU is committed to the careful stewardship and wise use of the human and financial resources needed to accomplish the mission of the University, while at the same time addressing the challenges which face independent higher education.
