English Department Writing Scholarship
The English Department Writing Scholarship supports talented creative writers and/or journalists in their studies at Nebraska Wesleyan University. Each year, the English Department will select one incoming first-year student for this scholarship. The Writing Scholarship is awarded beyond any Financial Aid the student receives. The scholarship is awarded over four years, with $1,000 awarded in the student’s first year.
The English Department Writing scholarship may be renewed for up to four years of scholarship funding ($2,500 total) if the scholarship holder remains enrolled at Nebraska Wesleyan University as a full-time student in good academic standing and actively participates in the writing life of the English Department through coursework or cocurricular activities.
Application Process for Incoming Students:
Incoming students may apply for the Writing Scholarship by submitting:
- An academic résumé detailing the student’s achievements in academic, journalistic, professional, and creative writing;
- A writing sample of one to five pages (up to 1,500 words) of creative and/or journalistic writing, either published or unpublished. The writing sample may include one or more pieces of writing.
Students may choose to supplement their applications with an optional letter of reference from a teacher, mentor, or supervisor that attests to the student’s skills and accomplishments as a writer. Applications and letters of reference should be sent directly to the Scholarship Committee:
