New Theatre Season Announced

Nebraska Wesleyan University will open its theatre season in August with the Broadway hit, “A Chorus Line.”

The 1975 musical revolves around Broadway dancers auditioning for spots on a chorus line. The box office hit won nine Tony Awards and a Pulitzer Prize for Drama, and remains the fifth longest-running Broadway show ever.

The curtain opens on August 16. The musical continues August 17-19 and August 23-26 in McDonald Theatre, located at 51st Street and Huntington Ave.

Tickets go on sale August 6 and will be available for purchase at the box office (402.465.2384) or online.

Admission is $15 for adults, $10 seniors, and $7.50 students (K-12, college).

The Broadway musical is the first of 14 productions planned for the 2012-2013 academic year.

This year’s performance schedule includes:

  • Lend Me A Tenor — August 30-September 1, 6-8, 7:30 p.m.; September 2, 9, 2 p.m., Miller Theatre
  • Brighton Beach Memoirs — September 13-15, 7:30 p.m., Miller Theatre, (Student-directed play)
  • Glass Menagerie — September 27-30, 7:30 p.m., September 29-30, 2 p.m., Miller Theatre
  • Pirates of Penzance — October 4-6, 18-20, 7:30 p.m., October 7, 21, 2 p.m., McDonald Theatre
  • Dracula — October 25-27, November 1-3, 7:30 p.m.; October 28, November 4, 2 p.m., October 31, 10 p.m., McDonald Theatre
  • The Farnsworth Invention — November 8-10, 15-17, 7:30 p.m.; November 11, 18, 2 p.m., Miller Theatre
  • The Complete Works of Christmas (Abridged) — December 6-8, 13-15, 7:30 p.m.; December 7-8, 14-15, 10 p.m.; December 9, 16, 2 p.m., McDonald Theatre
  • The Cripple of Inishmaan — January 23-26, 7:30 p.m.; January 27, 2 p.m., Miller Theatre
  • Musical TBA (Oct 1) — January 31-February 2, 7-9, 7:30 p.m.; February 3, 10, 2 p.m., McDonald Theatre
  • The Tempest — February 14-17, 21-24, 7:30 p.m.; February 16-17, 23-24, 2 p.m., Miller Theatre
  • Phaedra — February 28-March 2, 7-9, 7:30 p.m.; March 3, 10, 2 p.m., Studio Theatre
  • Spoon River Anthology — April 11-13, 18-20, 7:30 p.m.; April 14, 21, 2 p.m., Miller Theatre
  • Mother Courage and Her Children — April 25-27, May 2-4, 7:30 p.m.; April 28, May 5, 2 p.m., McDonald Theatre

In addition, Nebraska Wesleyan theatre will present cabaret performances of five weekends of song and stories. Each performance is different.

Cabaret performances are scheduled for:

  • October 26-28, 7:30 p.m.
  • October 28, 2 p.m.
  • November 16-18, 7:30 p.m.
  • November 18, 2 p.m.
  • February 15-17, 7:30 p.m.
  • February 17, 2 p.m.
  • April 12-14, 7:30 p.m.
  • April 14, 2 p.m.
  • May 10-11, 7:30 p.m.
  • May 12, 2 p.m.

All cabaret performances will be held in the Studio Theatre, located at 2710 N. 48th Street, just west of campus.
