Nebraska Wesleyan University’s Touch of Class Jazz Choir will perform a regional premiere of “Mass In Blue” during its upcoming tour in Iowa and Missouri.

The 16-voice ensemble kicks off its spring tour on Saturday, March 16 in Council Bluffs, Iowa and continues with performances in Red Oak, Iowa; Liberty, Mo., and St. Joseph, Mo.

Will Todd’s “Mass In Blue” is an upbeat setting of the Latin mass. The 40-minute work blends jazz grooves and strong choral writing with a solo piano and solo soprano weaved throughout the work. “Mass In Blue” has only been performed in New York, California, Michigan and Canada.

Last month, Touch of Class Jazz Choir members worked closely with conductor Elena Sharkova, who conducted “Mass In Blue” during the performances New York and California. Sharkova has performed the piece with Will Todd.

In addition to “Mass In Blue,” the jazz choir will perform standards such as “The Way You Look Tonight,” “Straighten Up and Fly Right,” and “Summertime.”

Saturday, March 16, 7 p.m.

Broadway United Methodist Church, 11 South First Street, Council Bluffs, Iowa, free-will offering

Sunday, March 17, 4 p.m.
