Your Safety Is Important To NWU
While the tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School occurred over a 1,000 miles from here, we all share in the sorrow for the victims and families affected.
Your safety at Nebraska Wesleyan University is always at the forefront. In the wake of such an event, it is important to remind you of the following safety policies and protocols:
The University's emergency information, including information on fire emergencies, tornado emergencies and campus shelters, and our emergency response levels can be found at: http://www.nebrwesleyan.edu/about-nwu/campus-safety/emergency-information
If the campus is in immediate danger, students, faculty, and staff will first be alerted through the Wesleyan Alert System, which sends a text message to your cell phone. This is the fastest way for the University to notify you in the event of an emergency. If you are not signed up for the Wesleyan Alert System, please sign up at: https://www.nebrwesleyan.edu/about-nwu/campus-safety/wesleyan-alert-system/create-your-wesleyan-alert-account. The Wesleyan Alert System is only available to current students, faculty, and staff.
If you already have a Wesleyan Alert System account but need to update it with a new phone number or if your account has expired and you need to renew, go to https://www.nebrwesleyan.edu/about-nwu/campus-safety/wesleyan-alert-system/wesleyan-alert-log. Please do not create a new account if you have previously created one.
Please store the following two numbers in your phones: NWU Security, 402.432.9238 (available 24 hours/day, 7 days/week); Residence Life Coordinator, 402.601.2114 (available 24 hours/day, 7 days week). In case of an emergency, call 911 then call NWU Security.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to the entire community of Newtown as they deal with this tragic loss of life. Our thanks go out to our students, faculty and staff for all you do to keep our campus safe.
