Recording Preserves Voice of Nebraska State Poet William Kloefkorn

William Kloefkorn died on May 19, 2011. Kloefkorn taught English at Nebraska Wesleyan University for 40 years and served as Nebraska state poet for 29. In that time, the depth of his voice, kindness and poetry touched thousands of people.

That voice, that poetry and that kindness are all on display in this 2005 audio recording. In it, Kloefkorn reads from his 2004 book, Walking the Campus, and shares his thoughts on poetry, the liberal arts and his love for all things warm and breathing.

God Bless You, Bill

Bill Kloefkorn was one of my most inspirational teachers when I was at Wesleyan (1975-1979). I entered as a psychology major but switched to English my sophomore year. There were many reasons for this change, but perhaps the most influential one was having Mr. Kloefkorn as my Freshman English teacher. He certainly wasn't an easy teacher (I received only one B while I was at Wesleyan, and it came in Mr. Kloefkorn's Creative Writing: Poetry class), but he changed the way I looked at writing and at life.

Thank you, Bill. May you rest in peace.
