Teams Prepare to Raise $42,500 at Friday's Relay For Life

Nebraska Wesleyan University will hold its eighth annual Relay for Life event on Friday, April 15. This year's theme is “Wild About a Cure.”

Activities will begin at 6 p.m. and will continue through 6 a.m. on Saturday, April 16. The event will be held in Knight Field House, located on 53rd & Huntington Ave.

Various events are scheduled throughout the evening including:

  • The opening ceremony will take place at 6:00 p.m. followed by the survivor lap at 6:30 p.m.
  • Children’s relay, face painting, and a performance of the NWU faculty band “Release Time” from 7-9 p.m.
  • At 9 p.m., the first “Mr. Relay Pageant” will take place, featuring NWU males as they compete in talent, formal wear, and best interpretation of the theme, “Wild About a Cure.”
  • At 10 p.m., the Luminaria Ceremony will honor those who have lost the battle with cancer and those currently fighting cancer.
  • The Fight Back Ceremony will take place at 5 a.m. on Saturday.
  • Additional activities are scheduled throughout the event including a water balloon toss, karaoke contest, scavenger hunt, and several other games.

Thirty-eight teams made up of 340 participants will walk in Friday’s Relay for Life working to reach the goal of raising $42,500.
