Nebraska Wesleyan University’s Music Department will perform two contrasting operas: The Medium and The Telephone.

The operas by Gian Carlo Menotti will be performed Friday, April 1 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, April 3 at 3 p.m. in O’Donnell Auditorium, 50th Street and Huntington Ave.

The Telephone includes a two-character cast. The setting takes place in Lucy’s living room. Her unending phone conversations get in the way of romance. Ben wants badly to propose to her, but can’t get her off of the phone long enough to do it. There’s only one way to get through to her. Ben dials her number and hopes for the best.

The light-hearted love story will be followed by The Medium. Madame Flora is terrified when she perceives a supernatural presence during one of her fraudulent séances. Her daughter, Monica, and a servant boy, Toby, try unsuccessfully to convince her the ghosts are not real. But Madame Flora’s insanity and alcoholism eventually lead to tragedy.

The opera will be directed by William A. Wyman and Dawn Pawlewski Krogh.

Admission is $12 for adults and $6 for seniors and students. Tickets will be available at the door.
