The services and policies explained in this document apply only to Nebraska Wesleyan University undergraduate and graduate students.
Anyone may use the collections inside the library, but an NWU ID card is required in order to check out materials.
NWU ID CARDS ID cards are made in the Registrar's Office, located in Smith-Curtis Room 206. Before students may check out
materials, a user record must be created in the circulation system using information from the NWU ID card.
Please remember to update your information if you change your name, move, or get a new email address.
LOAN PERIODS Students may check out most items for 3 (three) weeks, with two renewals allowed. Periodicals such as magazines, journals, and
newspapers do not normally circulate. ITEMS THAT CHECK OUT FOR THREE WEEKS ARE ALWAYS DUE ON WEDNESDAYS.
Circulation policies on other materials:
- Videos - 1 day; 1 renewal
- CDs and other sound recordings - 1 day; 1 renewal
- Reference CDs (at circ desk) - 2 hours; 1 renewal
- Software - 7 days; 1 renewal

RENEWALS You may extend the use of most materials by renewing them in one of several ways.
- Visit the circulation desk. You are not required to have your materials with you but you must have your NWU ID card. Please verify the new due dates
before you leave, and pay any fines that might be owed.
- Telephone the circulation desk at 465-2400. Again, verify the new due dates.
- Renew your items online via WebCat. You must have your longer student ID number (begins 27207) and your PIN in order to renew online. Please call the circulation desk at 465-2400 for
assistance.
CONFIDENTIALITY OF LIBRARY RECORDS Cochrane-Woods Library adheres to the American Library Association Statement on Professional Ethics, which states that circulation records must remain confidential. The library will not release information in circulation records to non-library staff members unless compelled by court order. Please contact the Head of Public Services for further information.
RESERVES Your professors may place books, articles, and other materials on reserve for courses. These items may be
checked out at the circulation desk. Please know the name of the professor and the course for which you wish reserve materials. You must also have your NWU ID card to check out reserve items. Items returned past due will incur fines. While some reserves
check out overnight, normally reserve materials must be used in the library and have a two hour checkout limit. Professors are responsible for determining whether or not reserves check out overnight.
FOOD AND DRINK Food is prohibited in all public areas of Cochrane-Woods Library. Food and beverages are not allowed in either the Mac or HP
labs.
The fine print All library materials must be checked out before leaving the library. You
are financially responsible for each item charged on your card until the items are returned. If your card is lost or stolen, report it immediately to both the library (or call 465-2404) and the Registrar's Office. NWU ID cards may only be used by the person to whom they are issued. Materials must be returned in the same condition as when they were
checked out. We cannot transfer overdues or fines from one borrower to another.
As always, please contact the library at 465-2400, or via email, with questions or comments. This page was last updated 8/12/2005
