wesleyan's world music workshop, concert to feature multi-instrumentalist

LINCOLN, Neb. —A Middle Eastern oud, a South American zamponia and an Indian santoor — combine these with dozens of other ethnic instruments and one musician and the audience is sure to be entertained at Nebraska Wesleyan University's annual World Music Concert.

Multi-instrumentalist Todd Green has astounded audiences from across the country with his diversity on a multitude of string, flute and percussion instruments from all over the world. Green will be featured in a special World Music Concert Series workshop on Monday, September 21 at 7 p.m. A concert will be held Tuesday, September 22 at 7:30 p.m. Both events are free and will be held in O'Donnell Auditorium, located at 50th Street and Huntington Ave.

Green has been writing and performing his own music professionally since age 15. He studied composition, arrangement and performance at Berklee College of Music and privately with guitar greats George Benson, Pat Metheny, Christopher Parkening and Mick Goodrick. He also studied ethnic instruments, including the Indian Bansuri Flute with masters Sachdev and Steve Gorn. His column on improvisation and composition has been published in Fingerstyle Guitar Magazine. He recently released his companion recordings, Sequel to an Unfinished Story, Vol. 1, Celebration and Vol. 2, Meditation.

Green's performance will be enhanced by digital samplers, which allow him to record and over-dub instruments one by one, making him a one-man orchestra.

The 2009 World Music Concert Series at Nebraska Wesleyan is made possible by sponsorship and grants from The Nebraska Arts Council through funds from the Nebraska Legislature, National Endowment for the Arts, Nebraska Humanities Council, Nebraska Wesleyan Wolf Fund for Diversity Programs, Nebraska Wesleyan University Department of Music, and Nebraska Wesleyan University's Global Studies Program.
