students, alumni lend hand to service projects
LINCOLN, Neb. —For the 14th consecutive year, first year students joined faculty and staff and hit the streets of Lincoln on Saturday August, 22 to help 42 service agencies with their projects.
More than 400 faculty, staff and students participated in Lend-A-Hand to Lincoln and helped service agencies with a variety of projects including small tree removal, painting and entertaining the elderly.
Organizers said the event demonstrates to new students the importance of service work and the difference they will make in the community.
While students and employees volunteered in Lincoln, a group of NWU alumni and friends did the same in Omaha for the first annual "Lend-A-Hand To Omaha" event. Volunteers spent the morning at two locations — Open Door Mission, where they prepared and served meals and Hitchcock Park where they painted bleachers and picked up trash in coordination with Keep Omaha Beautiful.
