nearly 500 nwu students receive degrees

LINCOLN, Neb. — Approximately 500 undergraduate and graduate students received their degrees at Nebraska Wesleyan University's 120th commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 16.

Duane Acklie, Chairman of Crete Carrier Corp. and a past chair of the Board of Governors, will gave the commencement address. In addition to Crete Carrier Corp., Acklie is engaged in commercial banking, casualty insurance, land development, electronic contracting and agriculture. In 2005 he served as an Alternate to the United States of America to the 60th Session of the United Nations General Assembly and Senior Advisor to the U.S. Mission to the United Nations. Among his numerous honors are the USO Civic Achievement Award and the U.S. Department of Defense Medal for Distinguished Public Service, the highest award given by the U.S. Department of Defense to a civilian.

Honorary degrees were bestowed on Bishop Ann B. Sherer, Resident Bishop of the Nebraska Area-Nebraska Conference, United Methodist Church and to John W. White, Jr., who served as Nebraska Wesleyan's president for 20 years.
